Near-term growth gains for aluminium producers as prices surge
The aluminium supply chain is among those impacted by the war in West Asia. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region produces around 8-9 per cent of global aluminium, and exports 75 per cent of this produce. The GCC smelters are fed by bauxite/alumina that passes out through the Strait of Hormuz and of course, aluminium production is a very energy-intensive process (usually through smelters driven by natural gas). Both bauxite/alumina supplies and gas supply have been interdicted.

Higher crude oil prices, uncertainty weigh on commercial vehicle sales
Shares of commercial vehicle (CV) makers Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland remained under pressure, falling up to 9 per cent on the BSE in Monday’s intraday trade. Tata Motors slipped 9 per cent to ₹389.05, while Ashok Leyland skidded 6 per cent to ₹153.75.
Indian refiners bought 60 million barrels of Russian crude oil since March 5
New Delhi: Indian refiners shifted back to Russian crude oil buying around 60 million barrels of the geopolitically sensitive commodity from Moscow since March 5th as closure of the strait of Hormuz (SoH) impacted 40 per cent of its imports.
India opens 80,228 sq km for oil and gas exploration; ONGC starts new gas output
India on Monday opened up 21 oil and gas blocks covering 80,228 square kilometres under a fresh exploration round, even as state-run Oil And Natural Gas Corporation has started gas production from a key offshore project, marking a twin push to boost domestic energy output. The latest bidding round under the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP-XI) comes as the government seeks to expand exploration activity and reduce dependence on imports. With this round, the total area offered under OALP-X and XI together now stands at about 262,817 square kilometres.
